Description
Meet Kit! Born March 8th, 2021, he weighs (roughly) around 105 and is up to date on his shots. He is not working out as a livestock gaurdian dog for us. We have free range ducks, chickens and sheep and he chases them. He's taken down two of our chickens. He gets along very well with our older dog (who is very easy going).
When I feed him, I make a point to handle him so that he is use to it. I can pick up his paws, play (gently) with his ears, pet him, etc. However, when livestock get close to him when eating, he becomes territorial/aggressive with them (snaps/snarls and then and chases them off).
He has grown up with my two young sons. They give him treats and he is very gentle about taking them from the boys. He is very good about dropping the ball for them as well. However, my four year old approached me when I was getting ready to feed Kit and Kit snarled and lunged at my son. That is a deal breaker for me. This is the first (and only) time this has occurred, but once is enough for me.
He needs to go to an home where they are experienced with large dogs and there are no smaller animals (or young children). He is a very loud barker and a good watchdog (goes after bears, foxes, etc).
Please let me know your set up and what life might look like for Kit. Thanks :)
