The Actors Academy aims to connect and provide the essential acting tools needed for the modern thespian to succeed. We provide a platform for directors, acting coaches, casting agents, producers and film makers to teach the techniques needed to develop and sustain a great career. The mission of The Actors Academy is to awaken the imagination, emotion, and intellect of the student artist by making him/her aware of the transforming power and universality of performance arts and the skills required to achieve excellence. The courses this session will focus on Filmmaking and Acting nuances that all artist must understand if they look to make an impact within the Performance Arts community. These talents, when mastered, will assist any actor, producer or director in their progression within the craft. (***Classes are for students 18 or older***) Location:Iron Crown Studios 3500 Parkdale Ave. Suite Y Baltimore, MD. 21211 ***** Due to Covid-19 The Actors Academy is offering students the option of participating in person or live streaming via Zoom. The on site class is limited to Fifteen (15) students in order to allow 6ft social distancing between seats. Everyone on site must complete The Actors Academy Covid-19 Check List and is required to wear a mask when not performing***** The Actors Academy: Take Four "Leveling the Playing Field" Course Schedule Acting ClassesDate: February 7, 2021 2:00PM- 4:00PM Course Topic: Resume, Reels & Representation Directors: Sandra (Jus1 PR) & Jay Chapin ( Dragonuk Connects) Resident Acting Coach: Dr. Tammi Rogers Course Description: If you’re an aspiring or working actor, a resume and professional demo reel is a must in order to showcase your best work and catch the attention of casting directors, agents, and managers. This class will dive into the importance of quality representation and how it can effect the trajectory of your acting career. Date: February 14, 2021 2:00PM- 4:00PM Course Topic: Emotional Connectivity Director: Dorrian Wilson Resident Acting Coach: Dr. Tammi Rogers Course Description: An emotional connection is a bundle of subjective feelings that come together to create a bond between two people. The feelings may be anger, sorrow, joy, love or any of thousands of emotions that humans experience. This class will teach you how to make your emotional connections within a scene believable while staying in “The Moment”. Date: February 21, 2021 2:00PM- 4:00PM Course Topic: Mastering Monologues Director: Ramona Rideout (Acting With Ramona) Resident Acting Coach: Dr. Tammi Rogers Course Description: This class is designed to help you make a monologue your own. Elements such as: where to find a monologue, what makes it good textually, how to approach it from an “active” perspective and the materials and tools you need to build it (including actions, personal meanings, objective, connection with whom you are speaking) will all be covered. The goal is to help you find and develop a monologue, or two, that will get you an acting job. Date: February 28, 2021 2:00PM- 4:00PM Course Topic: Film and TV On Camera Acting Director: Naim Freeman (Iron Crown Productions) Resident Acting Coach: Dr. Tammi Rogers Course Description: This comprehensive program has been designed to give each student specific tools to meet the demands of working on camera for television and film. The class will explore as scale of performance, hitting marks, close-ups, behavioral continuity, subtext and screenplay/teleplay analysis, adding elements one at a time. All students will have the opportunity to work on camera in class and evaluate their work on the monitor. Incorporating a cumulative, step by step approach, this class will give students the confidence and freedom to have a full and artistic experience within the framework of television and film. Production ClassesDate: February 6, 2021 2:00PM- 4:00PM Course Topic: Theatre Production Director: Rosalyn Gaines (Kuumba Ensemble) Course Description: This class provides practical experience in Theatre Management including Production Management, Stage Management, Box Office Management, and other Administrative Management areas for live theatrical events. Date: February 13, 2021 2:00PM- 4:00PM Course Topic: Headshots Photographer: Adib (@Yowiththecamera) Course Description: This class is strictly a “Headshot” session for those who need updated professional headshots. A great headshot will open doors. It is the most important tool you can invest in. If your headshot does not catch the eye of casting director they will never know how talented you are because you will not get an audition. Date: February 20, 2021 2:00PM- 4:00PM Course Topic: Writers Room Director: Tiffany Yancey (A.T. Yancey Entertainment) Course Description: In order to begin fostering our own stories, we have created a Writers Room. This class explores the more esoteric elements of screenwriting, including the creative process and the proper application of storylines, subtext and character development. After this class, students should have a clearer idea about how to become a more productive writer and a more creative artist. Date: February 27, 2021 2:00PM- 4:00PM Course Topic: The Film Making Experience Director: Naim Freeman (Iron Crown Productions) Course Description: This course approaches cinematography as a practical craft and as a design art. With a combination of theoretical study and hands-on exercises, we build a rich understanding of a DP's most important skill-sets including light, exposure, color, lighting, cameras, formats, lenses, frame composition and shooting practices.
