EL CERRITO, CA — A middle school in El Cerrito has been the target of various vandalism incidents this month, including windows shot and race-based messages written on the school's concrete, police said. The vandalism has been reported since Nov. 15 at Korematsu Middle School, with at least 14 windows reported damaged by a BB gun or sling shot on the campus on Donal Avenue. El Cerrito police said some of the vandalism has included race-based messages directed toward Black people, and that suspects stole the letter "L" from a sign in front of the school. The overall damage from the vandalism to the school is estimated to be at least $16,000, police said. Anyone with video footage related to the case can upload it at the police department website.
