GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — When a homeless man was hit by a car last month, the Gwinnett County community came together to help raise more than $12,000 to help with his surgery and rehabilitation. John Reese, 74, has made a spot under an interstate bridge in Buford his home, according to a GoFundMe campaign. On October 26, he was hit by a car while at "home," and is currently in a local hospital with a broken leg and a few other injuries. The GoFundMe seeks to help Reese secure a permanent home and items such as a soft bed, blankets and clothes. A couple who regularly brought him meals, Lorri and Randy Brown, noticed that he was not in his usual spot last month. "John quietly goes about his business each day, which includes venturing to the nearby gas station for his morning coffee" they wrote. "He's quiet, doesn't bother anyone, and when asked about his past, his responses often seem uncertain--as if he's experiencing either some dementia or possibly other mental challenges. John is 74 years of age and has been homeless since losing his wife and daughter; unfortunately, he has no other family." Contribute to the GoFundMe here.
