Happy Saturday, people of Atlanta! Here's everything you need to know going on today. First, today's weather: Warmer with plenty of sunshine. High: 59 Low: 40. Here are the top stories in Atlanta today: Separate shootings overnight in Atlanta on Thanksgiving claimed the lives of two men. According to police, officers responded to New Town Circle and reports of a person shot around 11 p.m. Thursday. The man was transported to the hospital, where he died. Then, less than two hours later, reports of a person shot on Boulder Park Drive drew police again. That man also was taken to the hospital, where he died. Police, who have not released names of either victim or identified potential suspects, are continuing their investigations. (WSB Atlanta) When Shelby Coffin, an Atlanta teacher and sleep-deprived new mom, received a text message warning her of suspicious activity connected to her Zelle money sharing account, her unwitting response to the scammers behind the text turned her into a fraud victim. "Essentially, they wiped my bank account out," Coffin said. "I had $500 left." What can be done in response to security risks and scams related to cash sharing apps like Zelle, Cash App and Venmo? According to the Federal Trade Commission, the first step is contacting the company behind the app to see if it can reverse the payment. If the account is linked to a credit or debit card, the activity also should be reported to the credit card company in case it can reverse the charge. (Atlanta Patch) The Thanksgiving leftovers may be fast disappearing, but there's no shortage of holiday fun to be had in Atlanta. From Chanukah events to Christmas activities, festive events abound this December. Pick your Atlanta hotspot – Ponce City Market to Underground, the Fabulous Fox Theatre to Dad's Garage, and the list goes on – then make plans to make this December one to remember. (Reporter Newspapers) The mother of a South Fulton County firefighter has made it an annual tradition to make firefighters feel appreciated on Thanksgiving. To accomplish that this year, Renee Mumford cooked meals for more than 50 men and women in nine different fire stations. It's a tradition Mumford began in 2016 after losing two of her three sons in a car accident near a fire station. "Station 7 arrived first on the scene," she said. "From that, we got to really know them. And then my other son decided to become a firefighter." That son, Sgt. Jerrell Mumford, began his firefighting career at Station 7. His mother, who enjoys giving back, said, "So often, we forget about first responders." (WSB Atlanta)People like Thanksgiving – and animals do, too, as is evident in a video released by the Georgia Aquarium. A variety of aquatic critters can be see munching down on delightful treats at the largest aquarium in the country, home to hundreds of species and thousands of animals in seven major galleries. This is the busiest shopping season of the year, and the Atlanta Police Department wants you to stay safe and to avoid becoming a victim. We all love Black Friday shopping deals and can't wait to hit the malls and stores! Criminals love this time of year as much as you do, as they aim to take advantage of your generous gift buying, and lackadaisical personal security. This season let's not give criminals easy access to your hard-earned valuables. While you are out shopping, dining, and enjoying the beauty of the season, APD reminds you to be aware of your surroundings, and be mindful of little things you can do to minimize becoming a victim of a crime."
