Register for the annual UPO's annual concerto competition. Sign up times will be made available later in the year. Join us for the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra's sixteenth annual concerto competition! We're the only competition in the state to allow both vocalists and instrumentalists to compete for the chance to play live with an orchestra at the Spotlight Spectacular later in the year. Auditions will be held in person for a panel of judges. Public health department guidelines will be observed including social distancing, sanitization of surfaces, and wearing of masks. Brass and wind players MUST audition with appropriate protective equipment including bell covers and masks. While past competition winners have performed in concert with the UPO, uncertainty related to the ongoing pandemic makes planning for such an event this spring difficult. However, our board has identified several ways to feature the winning musicians based on health department guidelines at the time. This may include a live performance with a full- or part-sized orchestra, a recorded performance with a chamber group of UPO musicians, or a recorded performance with piano accompaniment. No matter the situation, each winner will be featured on the UPO website and social media pages and can claim the achievement on his or her musical resume.
