Description

NEW HORIZONS BIG BANDS (community type band) in Hollywood District and in Tigard are seeking musicians. NEW HORIZONS BIG BAND in Tualatin needs 1trumpet player. The Hollywood Band needs a keyboard player, a trumpet player. Must read music. The band is affiliated with the New Horizons International Music Association and is for amateur musician adults who want to continue their musical experience beyond high school/college and keep up their skills. We have vacancies now and are taking applications. We need you - even if temporarily until you find a pro band to work with - if that is all you can do, or if you want to progress from beginner to intermediate, we need you. HOW MUCH: Fees: $25 to join, $35 per month in advance. We have found that having a professional musician director makes a huge difference in quality. Less than $10 weekly for a 2 hour group lesson is a bargain not to be overlooked. Where else can you work to keep your skills that you developed in high school and college, or improve your skills in a friendly, non competitive, fun environment? WHERE ; WHEN: The Tualatin band meets Mondays at Resurrection Catholic Church 7-9pm. Hollywood band meets Wednesdays at 417 SE 11th, Portland, OR 97214, 7-9pm. WHO: If you are interested in progressing to Brad's professional bands, if you are looking for connections, if you are a former or current high school/college musician or you just want to keep your chops up, you are invited to join this amazing community band. All levels are welcome. All musicians will read music. THIS IS NOT A JAM SESSION. WHAT: Co-founder and director is professional musician, Brad Davis, a local owner/leader of the Kansas City Rhythm Kings and trumpet player. Co-founder, manager is Suzanne Short. Their mission is to keep big band music alive and available to be performed by community musicians to the delight of audiences. The application is available by email from the band manager. You will not be paid for performances. We perform evenings and weekends (because many of our members are not retired and still work full time). You will need your own music stand, your own instrument in good working condition, a willingness to learn to play BIG BAND JAZZ MOSTLY (Count Basie, Sammy Nestico, etc) and some vintage big band music from the 20's to the 60's. (All of our music is available on a private website, to be downloaded onto a tablet or printed on paper) If you are interested, contact me and you will receive an application by email. In your response, please include your email address. Suzanne Short, band manager. www.newhorizonsbigbandoftualatin.blogspot.com
