Description

Orchestra Miami continues its "Beethoven on the Beach" free outdoor concert series with “Beethoven on the Beach: Reboot”. Miami’s annual free outdoor concert series returns! Orchestra Miami continues its "Beethoven on the Beach" free outdoor concert series with “Beethoven on the Beach: Reboot”. This year’s concert will feature a dramatic work based on Goethe’s famous play entitled Egmont. Goethe was extremely aware of the musical potential of his dramas, and indicated in the script where incidental music or arias should be inserted. Several composers took on the job of composing incidental music to Egmont, but it’s Beethoven’s incidental music, Op. 84 which endures. Orchestra Miami will perform the complete incidental music, with narration in an English translation by Gordon Kalton Williams, and featuring soprano soloist Robyn Marie Lamp. The perfect companion piece to Egmont is Schubert’s Symphony N. 4 in C Minor, D 417. Written when Schubert was only 19 years old, it is only one of two symphonies which Schubert wrote in the minor key. Called the “tragic” symphony by the composer, it takes much inspiration from Schubert’s idol, Beethoven, including modeling the opening theme from Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 18 N. 4. This dramatic and beautiful symphony is a terrific counterpoint to Egmont and perfect example of the influence that Beethoven had on composers following him. This is a free concert, with a $10 per person suggested free will donation- no one turned away! Comfortable theater seats are provided- please do not bring a lawn chair. No outside food or beverages permitted; food and beverage will be available for purchase at the venue. This is an outdoor venue; however, we encourage our guests to use face coverings while inside the venue. Orchestra Miami is Miami's premiere professional orchestra!
