Broadway and Hollywood hits presented by The Big Band Sound 25-piece jazz orchestra to benefit the Sparrow's Nest local charity! The Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center in Poughkeepsie will be the venue for a swinging "Showtunes! Big Band Style" show presented by The Big Band Sound 25-piece jazz orchestra to benefit the Sparrow's Nest local charity. Performances are Friday, June 18th at 8 p.m., Saturday, June 19th at 8 p.m. and Sunday, June 20th at 2 p.m. "Showtunes! Big Band Style" will feature The Big Band Sound 25-piece jazz orchestra, including six vocalists and swing dance performers, in a show spotlighting smash hits from Broadway and Hollywood. At the core of the Great American Songbook are timeless songs that originated on the Broadway stage and Hollywood screen. In this show, songs will be performed from all of the greatest American composers and lyricists, including Cole Porter, Richard Rogers, Lorenz Hart, Oscar Hammerstein, Duke Ellington, Frank Loesser, and Jerome Kern. Plus, classic standards will be presented from the most famous Broadway shows and Hollywood movies, including "South Pacific", "My Fair Lady", "Guys and Dolls", "Kiss Me Kate", "The Wizard of Oz", and "Casablanca". What better way to enjoy a journey through Broadway and Hollywood favorites than in the most exciting setting of a live big band. Many of the selections to be presented in "Showtunes! Big Band Style" were popularized by big bands and big band singers, including Bobby Darin's "Don't Rain on My Parade", Frank Sinatra's "The Way You Look Tonight", Ella Fitzgerald's "Johnny One Note", and Cab Calloway's "Everybody Eats When They Come to My House". Also included will be the anthems "You'll Never Walk Alone", "As Time Goes By", and "Over the Rainbow". Proceeds from this show will benefit the Sparrow's Nest local charity and more than ten thousand dollars was raised over the past three shows. Sparrow's Nest of the Hudson Valley provides meals to the families of caregivers and children diagnosed with any type of cancer.
