Press release from the City of Malibu: November 24, 2021 UPDATE: Red Flag Warning for Malibu - wednesday, november 24 - friday, november 26, 6PM.  PSPS power outage in Malibu on Cuthbert Circuit.  UPDATE 11/24/2021 - RED FLAG WARNING FOR MALIBU WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 24 THROUGH FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 6:00 PM The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Red Flag Warning in effect for Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, including Malibu Wednesday, November 24 through Friday, November 26, 6:00 PM due to due to high winds and low humidities. Areas in and around Malibu currently meet Red Flag criteria or are very close. The peaks winds for this event will be Wednesday through Thursday afternoon with gusts of 40 to 60 MPH. Winds will decrease Thursday afternoon through Saturday. Humidities will lower Wednesday, then further lower Thursday and Friday into the 2 - 10% range, overnight recoveries will remain poor.  UPDATE 11/24/2021 - SCE PSPS POWER OUTAGE ON CUTHBERT CIRCUIT IN MALIBU - Southern California Edison (SCE) has proactively shut off power to the Cuthbert Circuit in the Point Dume area of Malibu (approximately Latigo Cyn Rd to Bonsall Dr, and from PCH approximately one mile inland) due to dangerous fire conditions. Residents should drive cautiously and be prepared for traffic signal outages. Approach any intersection with a broken traffic signal as if it were an all-way stop sign, per California law.  See fire conditions and forecasts for the Malibu area on the NWS website at https://www.weather.gov/lox/.  The LA County Fire Department will have augmented staffing in place ready for tactical deployment.  Due to the Red Flag Warning, the City's Trancas Canyon Park and Charmlee Wilderness Park are closed.  PREPARATIONS UPDATE City staff are making preparations for the Red Flag event and potential/anticipated/ongoing Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) activations over the following three days:   See local weather and fire conditions on the NWS website: https://www.weather.gov/lox/.  Malibu residents, businesses, employees and others in the community should be prepared for potential fires, evacuations, power and traffic signal outages, downed tree limbs and powerlines, hazardous driving conditions and debris in the road way. Drive with caution, especially on canyon roads. Under California law, always approach an intersection with a malfunctioning traffic signal as if it were an all-way stop sign. See LA County's emergency preparedness guide.    Review your emergency plans, including evacuation routes and reunification locations, and check your emergency supplies for expired batteries, food and medication, including for pets. Keep your vehicle gas tank full. Be sure you know how to manually open your garage door if the power is out.
