WEST VILLAGE, NY — While the idea of a private dog park in New York City with an annual fee might sound a bit pretentious, The West Village D.O.G. Run is a "no-frill" park that has been building a community for 30 years and allows anyone to join that has proof of vaccination and a friendly dog. The New York Times recently looked at multiple private dog parks around New York City, including the West Village pooch run on Little West 12th Street. The annual fee for the park is $245, and everyone takes turns volunteering to shovel snow in the winter, wash down surfaces in the summer, and help with trash, reported the Times. The run is open 24 hours a day and has security cameras. The annual fees go to cover rent, electricity and cleaning supplies. "We're a community," said Tracey Sides, a writer and photographer who founded the park in 1992 with her late husband, Randy, to The New York Times. "When you walk through the gate, it doesn't matter who you are or what you do. Small dogs needn't be afraid here."
