ATLANTA, GA — Police reports reveal that Darrell Brooks, the man accused of killing six people and injuring dozens of others after driving his car through a Wisconsin Christmas parade, was previously arrested in Georgia. On Sunday, six people were killed — including an 8-year-old child — and more than 60 others were injured after police say Brooks intentionally drove his car through a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He was remanded into custody at Waukesha County Jail, where he will remain to await trial, Patch previously reported. Bail was set at $5 million cash. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 14, 2022. He faces five counts of first-degree intentional homicide and, if convicted, faces consecutive life sentences. Prosecutors are planning to file additional charges pending completion of the investigation. But police reports obtained by WSB-TV show Brooks was also arrested in Union City in May of this year on battery charges, stemming from a fight with his girlfriend at the time. Police determined he was the aggressor and his girlfriend had injuries consistent with domestic abuse, according to the news outlet. He was taken to East Point Jail, and it's not clear what happened to the case after that, WSB-TV reported. Brooks is also accused of being involved in a domestic disturbance minutes prior to the Waukesha parade tragedy, but police didn't get the chance to respond to the incident, Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson said Monday. A video captured on a doorbell camera appeared to show Brooks' arrest Sunday. Brooks also faced several earlier charges, according to information released by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office, including two counts of second degree recklessly endangering safety and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
