Good morning, Atlanta! Let's get you all caught up to start this Friday, November 26 off on an informed note. Here's everything you need to know about what's happening today in Atlanta. First, today's weather: Cooler; breezy in the morning. High: 54 Low: 32. Here are the top stories today in Atlanta:\ Atlanta's unemployment rate in October hit an all-time low, said Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler Thursday. Compared to October 2020's rate of 5.8 percent, unemployment dropped to 2.4 percent this October, down a bit from September's 2.5 percent. More than 19,000 employed workers were added in Atlanta last month, with the greatest growth seen in administrative and support services, health care and social assistance, retail and transportation. (WSB Atlanta)A metro Atlanta family is counting their blessings this year: Four of them, in fact β€” natural quadruplets who turned the Collier family of three into a family of seven in one fell swoop. Madison and Justin Collier went from having one child to tending to five when their quadruplets arrived early at 28 weeks. After two months in the NICU, the two boys and two girls β€” believed to be two sets of identical twins β€” got the all-clear to go home to Marietta, where their parents are currently using two cars to drive the babies around, as they don't have a vehicle that holds five car seats. (FOX 5 Atlanta)Although local food banks and pantries offered hot meals on Thanksgiving, the need for food stretches well beyond the holidays, according to community leaders. However, some churches and food banks are struggling to secure enough donations to address increased demand. Two such Atlanta groups in need are True Worship Church and Fountain of Hope's food bank, both of which are working to continue feeding the hungry despite food prices, inflation and other pandemic-related financial issues. (CBS46 News Atlanta)For the first time in three years, the Atlanta Falcons did not play on Thanksgiving. After facing off against the Saints on NBC the previous two Turkey Days, the NFL didn't schedule the Falcons for the spotlight on a holiday known for food and football. Given the team's challenges the past two weeks, Falcons fans were either giving thanks for missing their hometown team on the tube, or hoping a bit of turkey would have the team trotting off to victories soon. (Blogging Dirty)Beginning today, there will be no shortage of festive LGBTQ activities to fill the long holiday weekend. A wide variety of shows and soirees featuring plenty of food, drink and fun will keep the good times going long after the Thanksgiving leftovers are gone.
