LONG ISLAND, NY—More and more national retailers will close on Thanksgiving Day this year, a move spurred by last year's pandemic closures that some companies are making permanent.
This week, Target announced that their stores will close for Thanksgiving indefinitely.
According to CNN, Target's CEO explained the move was made with the retail giant's many employees in mind.
"What started as a temporary measure driven by the pandemic is now our new standard," CEO Brian Cornell wrote in a note to employees.
He decided to make the policy permanent after visiting Targets in New York and New Jersey, hearing feedback from employees happy to have the holiday off.
Walmart is also giving workers the day off as a gesture of thanks for working through the coronavirus pandemic.
Patch has a full list of retailers that will stay open this year, including CVS, Rite Aid, Old Navy, Michaels, Big Lots and Walgreens. Store hours may vary.
