ROUND ROCK, TX — All during November, Patch is inviting its readers to share their gratitude for others. Rena Newman,72, wanted to acknowledge the stranger who helped her change her flat tire in 106 degree weather at a local Walgreens parking lot last Fourth of July. Here's what she had to say: Last 4th of July, it was 106 degrees. I had a flat tired and managed to get into a Walgreens parking lot. I am 72 and have a broken back. I saw a man wearing a mask come out of Walgreens. He walked over to me and asked me if I had a jack. He spoke only Spanish and used his smart phone to type in his message and the phone talked back his question in English. I shook my head "no," so he went to his truck and got a mechanic's jack. He spent 30 minutes in 106 degree sun changing my tire. I asked his name and address so I could send him some money. He handed me his business card, in Spanish. When I got home, I went to my computer and wrote a thank you note in English and had it translated into Spanish. I sent him a check for $25. To this day, he has never cashed it. An angel saved me on America's birthday by saving me from a situation that was very dangerous for me being handicapped. James J. Kuroski also wanted to acknowledge God, his son and daughter-in-law and two granddaughters who helped him and his wife move from Illinois to Round Rock during the pandemic. During the height of the Coronavirus my wife and I moved from Illinois, where we each had lived our entire 76 years, to Round Rock, Texas. We did this at the suggestion of my only son who has lived down here for twenty years. To make a move like that would have been traumatic. To do it then was down right crazy. Yet, by the grace of God and the help of my son, his wife and two granddaughters we have settled to our new apartment and are enjoying our new home. So a big "Thank you to Jim, Teri, Kaylee and Alexis Kuroski from loving and grateful parents/grandparents." Patch's "30 Days Of Gratitude" is a series of articles exploring the intentionality of gratitude and featuring bits of wisdom from Patch readers.
