Press release from the Austin Chamber of Commerce - Blog: 11/23/2021 Today, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, announced that it would build a new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taylor, Texas — part of the Austin region and a city of focus for Opportunity Austin. The estimated $17 billion investment is the largest ever in the U.S. and will result in thousands of permanent jobs and tens of thousands of construction jobs in the coming years. According to the Samsung Electronics press release, the new facility will boost production of advanced semiconductors and will improve supply chain resilience of crucial logic chips. Chamber president and CEO Laura Huffman lauded the announcement and selection of the Austin region for this facility. Greater Austin Economic Development Corporation & Opportunity Austin Chair Gary Farmer extended thanks on behalf of the region to Samsung for selecting Taylor. According to Samsung, groundbreaking will occur in the first half of 2022 with the goal of the facility being operational in late 2024.
