By Marissa Luck and Rohit Diwadkar CoStar News   After a huge drop in holiday travel last year, Americans are back at it this year, filling freeways and piling into airports at almost pre-pandemic levels. Travel organization AAA forecasts that 53.4 million Americans will travel this Thanksgiving weekend, a 13% jump from 2020 and within 5% of the numbers in 2019, before the pandemic. *Projected number of travelers   "This Thanksgiving, travel will look a lot different than last year," said Paula Twidale, senior vice president of AAA Travel, in a statement. "Now that the borders are open and new health and safety guidelines are in place, travel is once again high on the list for Americans who are ready to reunite with their loved ones for the holiday." AAA found that New York; Orlando, Florida; and Anaheim, California, home of Disneyland, are among the top U.S. travel destinations. Top international destinations include Cancun, Mexico; Jamaica; and Aruba. Online travel company TripAdvisor found New York City, Orlando and Las Vegas to be the top domestic destinations and Paris, London and Rome as the top international destinations based on first-party data and surveys. TripAdvisor found 55% of Americans said they plan to travel sometime this winter, up from 50% last year but still lagging behind the 63% that traveled in 2019. Even so, the marked increases in travel are expected to serve as a shot in the arm for the hospitality industry that is still recovering from the pandemic. Source: www.
