Morning, neighbors! It's me again, Kathy Cioffi, your host of the Atlanta Daily. First, today's weather: Partly sunny. High: 64 Low: 42. Here are the top stories in Atlanta today: All three men accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery were convicted of murder in Brunswick Wednesday afternoon. Travis McMichael was convicted of malice murder while he, his father Gregory McMichael, and William "Roddie" Bryan Jr. were all three convicted of felony murder. Arbery, a Black man, was killed Feb. 23, 2020, after being chased through a neighborhood just outside Brunswick in a case that drew national attention after cellphone footage became public. Sentencing has not yet been scheduled. (Atlanta Patch)Metro Atlanta drivers traveling for Thanksgiving aren't thankful for one detail today: Gas prices are the highest ever for Turkey Day. Compared to last Thanksgiving, when gas was $1.94 a gallon, this week's average price in Atlanta was $3.26 a gallon – several cents higher than the previous Thanksgiving record set in 2013. Hoping to ease rising prices, the Biden administration announced plans Tuesday to release 50 million barrels of oil from the nation's strategic reserve. (Atlanta Journal Constitution) The gun that discharged at a Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport security checkpoint Saturday is believed to have been found, according to Atlanta police. After a passenger, Kenny Wells, caused widespread panic at the airport when a gun in his bag went off, authorities say he rushed out of the terminal with the firearm. Tuesday, detectives retraced the route the convicted felon took while fleeing the terminal, looking behind objects and into garbage cans. And, on the south side section of the facility, they found in one of those garbage cans a discarded black 9-millimeter handgun. (FOX 5 Atlanta)Atlanta police say a pair of 16-year-olds stole a truck, shot at police while trying to escape from them, then crashed into a vacant building. Video of the Nov. 10 incident posted on the Atlanta police's Facebook page shows the teens in the truck in the parking lot of an auto parts store. When they saw officers arriving, the teens sped off, crashing into the front of one of the marked patrol vehicles while the truck's passenger shot at officers. The pursuit ended after about two blocks when police say the teens drove the stolen Chevy Silverado into a vacant building at 804 Cascade Ave. According to APD, no officers returned fire at the teens, who are now at the Metro Youth Detention Facility. (WSB Atlanta)It wasn't exactly a stork, but a Delta Airlines flight served up a special delivery recently when a woman went into labor during a flight and delivered her baby in the back of the plane after landing. Although little Analia Acevedo Castaneda wasn't due to arrive till Dec. 23, she surprised her mom, Liliana, who began having contractions during the flight from Guadalajara, Mexico, to Atlanta, on her way home to Raleigh, N.C. Happily, a nurse was on board and, upon landing, was assisted by EMS and firefighters. Mom and baby are healthy and were expected to return home to North Carolina Wednesday.
