Join us in our Kitchen for an exciting and fun new seasonal cooking tutorial event at the Jonathan Clark House!
In honor of the Holiday spirit, we introduce to you the second in this series event, a tutorial in how the first settlers made shortbread cookies vs. how tradition varies in how a shortbread cookie with preserves is made in our kitchens today.
Executive Director Dana Hansen will show you 2 fun yet different methods to make delicious shortbread cookies with your preserves at home all while relating this method to how it began in the 1840's as recounted in the nostalgic cookbook "The Little House Cookbook: Frontier Foods from Laura Ingalls Wilder's Classic Stories." One recipe is rough and hand made, while the other, refined yet still easy to do.
After the tutorial, participants will be invited to taste both the Laura Ingalls cookie, and Dana's special thumbprint shortbread preserve cookies, one she loves to make every year for her own family. Complementary Hot Cocoa is included, and wine from Cedar Creek Winery will also be available for an extra $5 donation.
This is a family friendly ticketed event. Participants will be able to take home their own hand-crafted cookies and bake later with recipes from the class as a guide.
