Description

A Sunday Winter hike covering history, geology, and scenery along the Eno River. Stroll through history on this hike featuring Durham’s first public drinking water source. Building foundations and dams still surface in the woods, river, and creek. We may see signs of spring, including foliage of early wildflowers. Portions of the hike will be off-trail, some sections may be steep, muddy, or on rough terrain. A walking stick is highly recommended, and sturdy shoes are a must. Time permitting, we will hike the remainder of the 1.5 mile loop. Directions: Meet at the Pump Station Trail head, at the bridge over Nancy Rhodes Creek, on Rivermont Drive in Durham. Rivermont runs between Cole Mill and Valley Springs. The address is 4023 Rivermont Road, Durham, NC 27712. Carpooling recommended due to a small parking area. The Eno River Association (ERA) is a 501c3 non-profit conservation organization whose mission is to conserve and protect the natural, cultural, and historic resources of the Eno River basin. Established in 1966, the Eno River Association works to protect and restore exceptional places that provide our region with clean water and healthy forests, wildlife and natural areas, and open space.  To date, we have permanently protected more than 7,500 acres of land for the benefit of current and future generations.
