Description

In the aftermath of a busy Thanksgiving week, we are now needing help transitioning our Afghan friends to their new homes in Indianapolis! It's happening again! First of all, thank you so much for all those who participated in the large food shopping push last week! It was an extraordinary help, and to our surprise, every one of our families received what they needed. Starting November 29th, we will begin transitioning our Afghan neighbors from the hotel downtown and to some of their new living arrangement. This is the first of a bundle of calls to action that you may receive in the next couple of days/few weeks. Even if you're unable to help with this call, there'll be plenty of opportunities to get involved! There will be two tasks associated with this call to action: Task 1: Helping with Apartment Setups Date: Tuesday, November 30th, 2021 Time: 9:00AM to 1:00PM Location: Exodus Refugee (2457 E Washington St. Ste. A Indianapolis, IN 46201) Slots for apartment setup for family of 1: 1 individual Slots for apartment setup for family of 6: 5 individuals Task Description (PLEASE READ FULLY): Helping to load the truck for apartment setups. In order to participate, please plan on being at the Exodus office (2457 E Washington St. Ste. A Indianapolis, IN 46201) at 9AM sharp. This is the time that we plan to start loading our truck from our warehouse with the items for both setups. Sometimes, our housing logistics experience delays for various reasons. Please be patient with us and still show up at 9AM at the Exodus office. All remaining logistics, including the apartment that we will be traveling to for the move-ins (depending if you're on the single move-in or family of 6), will be given at the office after the vehicles are loaded. Please plan on wearing warm clothes that are suitable for a moving activity. Please expect to drive yourself to the location that you're designated for. Exodus staff will travel with you to the locations, and they will be your points of reference. During the activity, you may need to lift furniture or semi-heavy boxes (please don't feel obligated to lift beyond your ability). After the move-in, your volunteer engagement is complete for the day! Task 1 Part 2: Helping with Apartment Setups Date: Wednesday, December 1st, 2021 Time: 9:00AM to 1:00PM Location: Exodus Refugee (2457 E Washington St. Ste. A Indianapolis, IN 46201) Slots for apartment setup for family of 6: 5 individuals Task Description (PLEASE READ FULLY): Helping to load the truck for apartment setups. Date: Monday, November 29nd, 2021 Time: 9AM to 11AM Location: Exodus Refugee Immigration (2457 E Washington St. Indianapolis, IN 46201) Slots for this opportunity: 2 individuals Task Description(PLEASE READ FULLY): Preparing bags per family for winter coats. Volunteers will be asked to show up at the Exodus office at 9AM. They will be escorted to a space where they will complete this task. Volunteers will be provided with a list of family names, genders, and family compositions. Using this list, they will take coats for each member of a family unit and place it in a bag. After a family's bag is completed, using a sticky note, they will write the name of the family on that note and staple it to the bag. They will then mark off the name of the family from the master sheet and then move on to the next family until the entire list is complete. Please plan to spend time standing, bending, and light lifting. After all of the family bags of winter coats have been prepared, then your volunteer engagement is done for the day (unless another task comes up and we haven't already reached the end of our time window). Excited to serve with you all!
