Description

Pre-Register for a small group birdwatching tour! Peter will share insights and favorite spots. We’ll meet at the Fisherman’s Statue in Gloucester on Western Avenue. There we’ll look for common local ducks like Bufflehead, Red-breasted Merganser, and Common Goldeneye. We’ll proceed to the inner harbor at Jodrey State Fish Pier to spot a variety of gull species, ducks, grebes, and Common Loons. At Niles Beach, at the entrance to Eastern Point, we’ll search for Long-tailed Ducks, scoters, Horned and Red-necked Grebes, and Black Guillemots. We hope to proceed to the tip of Eastern Point for another look at the same birds, along with gulls and Purple Sandpipers. We may visit Niles Pond for Ring-necked Duck, Ruddy Duck, or a Great Blue Heron. Our last stop in Cape Ann is Rockport Headlands which includes Halibut Point. It’s a good area to look for Razorbills, Northern Gannets, Black-legged Kittiwakes, loons, various ducks, and Purple Sandpipers. All levels of birdwatching experience are welcome! Arrive: 9:30 am at Gloucester Fisherman's Memorial, 60 Western Avenue in Gloucester. Entrance Fees: Depending on our route, there may be entrance or parking fees. These are not included in the cost. What to bring: Dress warmly and wear layers. Bring binoculars, camera, jacket, water bottle, bird checklist (if desired). Social Distancing: Participants are at their own risk. An up-to-date Covid-19 vaccine is required. For passengers in shared vehicles, we will require mask-wearing inside the vehicle. NOTE about registration: Please register as soon as possible as the event is limited to 12 participants. Added to the price will be a small Eventbrite processing fee.
