This workshop will work for all kinds of creatives, including digital content creators, visual artists, filmmakers, musicians, chefs, and even artisan farmers and foodmakers. With the help of a proven professional, Kelly Porter, you'll begin to develop your own brand, reflecting your very own personality and style. Kelly says, "We’ll be covering topics such defining your brand, designing your identity, identifying your touch-points with your audience and managing your assets. These strategies will help you differentiate yourself and create value for your customers." Instructor Bio: Kelly Celeste Porter is one of our most popular presenters, with a knack for making her classes both interesting and informative. She is an associate professor of graphic design at East Tennessee State University. In addition to her 8 years of teaching, she has also worked for 11 years as a designer and design researcher for Ryobi Power Tools, The B.B. King Museum, Mississippi Blues Trail, and Mississippi Delta Tourism Association. Professor Porter has presented at UCDA, CAA, SECAC, and Pop Culture Association conferences and she is published in the International Journal of Signage and Wayfinding. She received her MFA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a BFA in Graphic Communication from the University of Southern Mississippi. Thanks to a generous grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission, we are able to offer this program for free! Create Appalachia strives to make the Appalachian Highlands a better place to live and work by supporting innovation and entrepreneurship centered around the arts and creativity. We work to sustain an environment that will generate new businesses, provide jobs in arts-based businesses, and highlight the important role that creativity plays in the region’s economic vitality. The Arts@Work Series supports entrepreneurial and self-employed artists and makers who wish to develop their professional business skills. Topics include business strategy, marketing, communication and promotion, pricing, and client relations. The 2021 Arts@Work series was curated to meet the particular needs of small creative businesses dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Create Appalachia™ is an arts-based business incubator based in Southern Central Appalachia. We support and facilitate the integration of arts and business, driving economic development throughout the region. With the help of individual artists and artisans, arts organizations, and community partners, we are working to build a thriving network of artists, musicians, writers, inventors, chefs, and designers. Our goal is the empowerment and economic security of of creatives throughout the region, and the further development of a local culture of creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation.
