Description

Livestock Guardian Dog Half Great Pyrenees half Anatolian Shepard Intact Male 1 and 1/2 years old Trained to guard livestock Awesome dog, but needs a big fenced property. More info: This boy is amazing, he has a great personality and gentle disposition. He is trained to guard goats, but would do well guarding any live stock. He is never aggressive towards the goats, even when they head butt him. We live in the woods with Bears and Mountain lions and he’s successfully prevented any predator attacks since we’ve had him. I have had other LGD dogs that bark way too much, he hardly barks, which is very nice. He only barks when he needs to. He’s been around goats, horse, cats, other dogs and chickens. The chickens he’s been around are fenced and he does not jump the fence to get them, but would need to be trained not to chase the chickens if they were free roaming. He learns quickly and I think could be trained to not harm free roaming chickens. He is wonderful around people, other dogs and children. He naturally knows to be calm abs gentle around kids. I don’t want to part with this lovable guy, but as his breed will do, he’s started to wander too far from home. At first he would just go to the closest neighbors houses and it was not a problem because they all really enjoy him, but recently he’s started to expand his territory and some of the other neighbors don’t like it. We have a big property, but it’s not fenced. The only way to keep him from going to the neighbors is to keep him penned up with the goats, and on a leash when we walk the goats. This is no life for him. He needs space to run and protect freely. If you have a big fenced property he would be an amazing dog! He needs a job, he needs animals to protect, or at least a family with people around. He is very social and needs other dogs, people, or livestock, to be around, or preferably all three :) For me to let him go, it has to be to a better home than I can give him. If it’s to be fenced in a small yard, that’s worse than his current situation so I will keep him. He is a very valuable dog and very useful, I hope to find a really good home for him that’s a win win, where he gets a great home and you get a dog that will guard your farm and family and also be a joy to spend time with.
