Good morning, Burlington! Happy Thanksgiving! Please know that, like most of you, I will be taking the day off to enjoy the festivities, so there will not be a newsletter in your inbox tomorrow. We appreciate your understanding of the slight pause in the Burlington Daily, and we'll be back to our normal routine Saturday morning! First, today's weather: Mostly cloudy. High: 44 Low: 33. Here are the top stories today in Burlington: Feeding Chittenden chefs spent their Wednesday packing Thanksgiving to-go meals for hungry Vermonters. The chef who runs the Community Kitchen Academy Program and the chef who runs the Hot Meal Breakfast Program are teaming up to make this event happen. Together, they and their team have gathered enough donations to feed 3,300 local families. (WCAX)Amid chilly temperatures, the city of Burlington is reopening a place for folks to warm up and get the resources they may need. The Community Resource Center at the VFW post in downtown Burlington will provide food, shelter, coffee, and hygiene products, and plans to provide resources for those who need to connect with emergency housing programs. The center, which is being paid for with COVID relief money, is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (WCAX)From state-imposed shutdowns to staffing shortages to supply chain snafus, the pandemic has challenged Vermont's small businesses. In support of retailers' important role in keeping our downtowns vibrant and the local economy strong, Vermonters shared their favorite independently-owned stores. Several Burlington businesses made the list across multiple categories, from entertainment to clothing to outdoor/recreation gifts.
