HOWARD COUNTY, MD — In recognition of the Thanksgiving holiday, Howard County government offices, 50+ centers, the court system, animal shelter, community and athletic centers, activity rooms, history sites and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed Thursday.
There will not be any curbside trash, recycling, yard trim or food scrap collection on Thanksgiving Day, so the county's holiday "slide" schedule will be in effect for the rest of the week. County park gates will be open Thursday but no staff will be on duty.
On Friday, Howard County government offices, 50+ centers, the court system, animal shelter, community and athletic centers, activity rooms and history sites will be closed. County parks and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be open. Even though community and athletic centers, along with activity rooms, will be closed Friday, they will be open for any pre-scheduled events that day.
The Howard County Library System will be closed Thursday and Friday.
The Howard County Public School System will be closed to students Wednesday for parent-teacher conferences, and all buildings will be closed for the holiday Thursday and Friday.
County operations will resume Monday at regular business hours and school will resume Monday.
Regional Transportation Agency buses will not run on Thanksgiving Day; however, they will resume a regular weekday schedule on Friday. Parking fees will not be enforced Thursday but will be in effect Friday.
The 9-1-1 Center, police and fire departments will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For emergencies, call 9-1-1 and for non-emergencies, call 410-313-2200.
Most all banks and the U.S. Postal Service will be closed Thursday.
