JOLIET, IL — One week after being shot by two Joliet police officers during an undercover drug investigation at the Wendy's restaurant parking lot on North Center Street, William Jenkins became uncontrollable during his first court appearance. As a result, Judge Dave Carlson held Jenkins, 38, formerly of Dolton, in contempt of court and sentenced Jenkins to spend the next six months in the Will County Jail. Jenkins was screaming and hurling lots of vulgarities at the judge during Tuesday's video court hearing. At the time, the judge was telling Jenkins he might need to undergo a mental health fitness examination before Jenkins' criminal case proceeds. Jenkins apparently became irate at the judge's suggestion, and he began yelling profanities at the judge, according to court officials. Jenkins was not inside the judge's courtroom at the time. Rather, he appeared over a video camera system set up at the Will County Jail, as is customary for initial appearances. Jenkins has been charged with three counts of distributing controlled substances. On three different occasions in October, Jenkins sold cocaine in the city of Joliet, according to his criminal complaint. On the day he was shot, Jenkins backed his car into one of the Joliet police officers at the Wendy's, prompting two other officers at the scene to shoot Jenkins. After spending nearly a week in the hospital, Jenkins was discharged from Silver Cross Hospital and put into the Will County Jail on Monday afternoon. Jenkins' bail remains at $500,000 in connection with his three drug-dealing charges. William Jenkins was held in court contempt by Judge Dave Carlson. Mugshot via Will County Jail
