CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — The Chicago Heights City Council approved multiple businesses for updated tax classifications at a meeting last week, officials told Patch. Morgan Li, a furniture and lighting fixture company, applied for a Cook County Class 6B classification which would allow the family-owned and operated business to benefit from reduced taxes at the Cook County level, but still allow Chicago Heights to extract the regular amount of taxes for city services. The application is awaiting approval by the Cook County Board. Food4Less was also granted a Class B tax classification renewal at the meeting. Jack Hynes, an economic development consultant with the Chicago Heights Economic Development Corporation, told council members the business could see a 60 percent increase in their tax bill if they could not stay in Class B. The council also approved three 60-day purchase-option agreements for a portion of land at 2116 State Street, 560 and 570 West 14th Street, and 711 West 15th Street.
