BATAVIA, IL — A head-on collision between an Infinity coupe and a school bus carrying 39 middle schoolers Tuesday afternoon left a man dead at the scene, Batavia police said.
The fatal crash happened at 3:13 p.m. on Hart Road, north of the intersection with Papermill Hill Drive. A full-size school bus carrying 39 students home from Rotolo Middle School was driving north on Hart Road while the 2007 Infinity two-door coupe was driving south on the road when the two crashed, according to police.
Adam D. Knisley, the coupe's driver and sole occupant, was found dead at the scene, according to police officials. The preliminary investigation indicates the coupe crossed over the center of the road and hit the school bus that was driving north, police said in an update Wednesday.
Of the students on the bus, one child was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Police said others reported minor injuries as well, but the other 38 students were released without further treatment. The school bus driver was uninjured.
Hart Road between Bond Drive and Papermill Hill Drive closed for a few hours and was reopened to normal traffic flow at 6:57 p.m.
The Batavia Police Department is working with the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team on the ongoing investigation.
Witnesses of the crash or anyone with information is asked to contact the Batavia Police Department Investigations Division at 630-454-2500.
