I am looking to put together a group of musicians interested in writing and playing together in what is often referred to as progressive rock or progressive metal. Influences could span from early Genesis, Rush, Hackett through Marillion, IQ and Dream Theater and to Big Big Train, Tool etc. I am primarily a bass player with some guitar and bass pedals so we would be looking to recruit a keyboard player, drums and lead guitar. Adding violin, flute oboe would be great. I am open to any ages but suspect that most of us will be in the 35-60 range. I have some practice space at home with guitar amps and a drum set available together with a simple home recording setup. Our goal would be to write and record material with playing out as the opportunities arise. This would be a serious but amateur endeavor. While this type of music can be quite technical, if you are a decent player with a passion for this type of music and a desire to improve by playing and writing with others you would be a good fit.
