Incorporated in 1955, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides recreation programs, facilities and services to over a quarter million residents of Mount Prospect and portions of Des Plaines, Arlington Heights and Elk Grove Village. Encompassing more than 450 acres, the District offers over 30 neighborhood parks and facilities including the Mt. Prospect Golf Club, pools, fitness centers, ball diamonds, art studio, dog park, conservatory/greenhouse and extensive bike and walking paths. Each four season program guide offers over 1,000 programs and events for all ages. The Mt. Prospect Park District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Evening Custodian. The Evening Custodian will be scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 3pm-11:30pm, with overtime on the weekend. The starting pay rate for the Evening Custodian is $17.00/hour. Under the direction of the Head Custodian and/or Buildings Manager, the Full Time Evening Custodian will perform Custodial maintenance in the upkeep of building, painting, cleaning, striping, waxing floors, cleaning restrooms, replenishing supplies, emptying trash and light bulb replacement. DUTIES: Work with the Head Custodian and Building Manager to determine tasks needed for specific assigned facilities. Perform custodial maintenance in the upkeep of buildings including painting, cleaning, stripping, waxing floors, cleaning restroom, replenishing supplies, emptying trash, and light bulb replacement. Physically set-up and take down rooms (i.e. furniture, chairs, etc.) for various park programs and rentals. Report any building/site maintenance problems to the Buildings Department Manager. Keep immediate grounds free of litter and debris. Perform other duties as they arise to maintain the facility at the standards established by the Facility Coordinator or Facility Manager. Perform exterior maintenance as needed on a year round basis including snow removal. Participate in the Park District’s Safety Training programs. Be familiar with and abide by Park District policies and procedures. May be required to work special events at night and on weekends. All other duties as assigned by the Head Custodian, Buildings Department Manager, Superintendent of Parks and Planning, and/or the Executive Director. However, in an emergency, perform all other duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have high school education or G.E.D. equivalent or any combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge and skills for this position. Must be at least 18 years old. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Must have previous custodial experience. Must be able to physically perform all custodial-related duties. Must possess knowledge in the use of common hand tools and power tools. Must have solid knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment and procedures. Must be able to work independently and with limited supervision. Must be able to communicate effectively with others to allow for the coordination of work and in emergency situations. Must be able to exhibit patience and understanding with patrons, staff and the general public. Must be able to abide by Park District policies and procedures. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends and holidays. May be required to work special events and provide weekend coverage, as needed. Physical Job Qualifications: Must be physically able to: frequently ascend/descend more than a 25% grade, lift 50 pounds from a squat position, push/pull, reach, walk; occasionally balance, bend (must be able to bend at waist and touch the floor with fingertips), climb, crawl, crouch, kneel for long periods of time, sit, stoop; and constantly handle objects. The general office work area is an indoor, smoke-free environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. When outdoors, may be exposed to weather conditions including rain, sun, wind, high humidity, and excessive heat and cold. May be exposed to noise distractions from employees or equipment operation in work areas. Additionally, may be exposure to cleaning materials. Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours will be required. Your work schedule may vary and your workweek may exceed regular hours at times.
