It’s more than an on-the-nose sup nod to the pot smokers of the world. It’s the product of over 6 years of basements, bars, van transit, and general disillusionment. The latter being most apparent, long-time friends Zach Dunham (guitar/vocals), Adam McLean (drums), Quincy Platt (bass) and Dan Strief (guitar/vocals) have succeeded in conquering adolescence and are actively seeking out maturity. Raleigh-based Arson Daily has made the conscious effort to grow beyond their traditionally raw, garage-rock predispositions by experimenting with new methods of songwriting. Leaving the electric instruments in their noisy home studio, most of Arson Daily’s newest album, Late Reflections, has been written in every room of their house on acoustic instruments. After intimately crafting the soul of each song, they would bring it in to their studio to guide it, one small layer at a time, into their eclectic vision featuring sonic qualities comparable to surf-western, Nashville garage rock, and indie radio trash. Late Reflections, released April 3rd, 2020, was recorded and produced with Mo Lowda and the Humble in Philadelphia. Late Reflections drives listeners through the satisfaction of accomplishment while wrestling with the hesitance and nostalgia that inherently accompanies change. Late Reflections has everything to do with accepting individuality, its inherent susceptibility to rejection, and the unabashed courage to do it anyway. Such themes will harbor interest to those who’ve known Arson Daily since their 2014 inception, reminiscent of noise complaints and soon-to-be-failed hearing tests in the Boone, NC basement scene. Having since graduated and relocated to Raleigh, NC, hungover with adulthood, Daily has ditched the booze enameled college vibe and taken a leap forward with the vulnerability of their content. The last three years have seen the dudes consistently gigging in larger venues and performing alongside names such as Shakey Graves, Illiterate Light, and Briston Maroney. Anyone who’s seen this group knows that a vestibule-pounding live performance is the core of their music. Arson Daily’s essence has always been best communicated through the translucent shadows kiltering through the night during their concerts. There’s something lost through the conversion of all music into a digital medium. It’s Arson Daily’s nature to reclaim that intangible quality within every audience. DADDY'S BEEMER: Charleston-based, indie rock triumvirate, Daddy’s Beemer have established their own brand of indie slack-rock lifted by a mindfulness to sonic palettes and trademark high-flying guitar moments that have electrified the eastern seaboard since 2016. Vigilant attention to detail in their sound design has helped ensure the same presence felt through their thrilling lives shows is channeled in their studio work as well: genuine, raw, compelling. Multi-instrumentalist, classically trained violinist, and former peach farmer, Dan Fetterolf and childhood friend, the godfather of upstate South Carolina DIY, Wesley Heaton found their frontman in Brady Sklar through their mutual participation in Clemson University’s WSBF 88.1 campus radio and their shared study of Audio Engineering. 2017’s self-titled Daddy’s Beemer and 2018’s Pucker Eps, released in part to satisfy school projects, saw Sklar’s knack of crafting intimate narratives boosted by his expansive register and sweet affectations allow the band to explore loss, substance abuse, and the universal struggle to realize one’s expectations. The Beem Boys paid their dues in their basement, initially serving as the house band for Clemson based house venue affectionately deemed Pablo. After establishing a loyal fanbase not only in the upstate but the greater Carolinas, they took their sights further, touring up and down the east coast as well as eventually to the west. While initial release dates for their debut full-length were delayed by COVID, they have continued, like always, to carry on. That debut LP, Denmark, has now been realized. Released through Very Jazzed, it takes their sonic forays further, experimenting on the indie rock vehicle and constantly ready to follow where it takes them. Their instantly accessible, ear-worm worthy product invites you too to be a part of that journey. PINK BEDS: “What started out as a casual jam to entertain a keg party has morphed itself into one of the most intriguing new musical acts in Western North Carolina. Aiken, a Brevard native, now fronts an Asheville group that stands at the intersection of indie rock, psychedelic folk and cerebral pop. It’s a seamless blend, more so a vibrant flow, that harkens back to the sounds of early 2000s indie icons The Strokes and Keane, with a thick thread leading to the melodic camps of Tame Impala and Snow Patrol.” Record shop by day. Live music venue by night. Raleigh's home for all things music featuring national and locally touring bands, an extensive vinyl record selection and two full bars.
