The "chosen family" created by LGBTQ. True Colors is proud to present “Chosen Family,” in partnership with ArtsXchange and Zami Nobla. Many LGBTQ create community, or family, outside of their biological families, sometimes by choice and sometimes not. As we celebrate the legacies of Sis. Rosetta Tharpe and Marie Knight, who created their own community together while traveling the Jim Crow South of the 1940’s, we welcome a conversation on the ways that Black LGBTQ form meaningful bonds and a home away from home. This special event will feature songs from our production of Marie and Rosetta, as well as an opportunity for audience members to perform scenes from the show while being coached by True Colors’ Artistic Director, Jamil Jude! To keep our guests safe during this time of the pandemic, this event is limited capacity and masks will be required. True Colors Theatre Company is a nonprofit regional theater company based in Atlanta, GA. True Colors Theatre Company’s mission is to celebrate the rich tradition of Black storytelling while giving voice to bold artists from all cultures. We add dimension and relevance to our work on the stage through active community events and 3rd – 12th grade education programming.
