NORTHPORT, NY — Julius and Sidney, 5-month-old tabby bonded brothers, are the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Kittens of the Week. "Julius and Sidney have had some rough beginnings," Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue, told Patch via email. "They were found on the side of the road in Brentwood, watching over their sister Bessie, who had some broken bones as well as buckshot particles from a BB Gun in her. They very easily could have run from her and found some safety in the bushes, but instead, they never left her side, one curled up around her and the other standing strong over them both. When we arrived to rescue them, they looked at us as if they knew we were there to help them but more importantly their sister." The rescue brought the kittens to the veterinarian and then to a foster home, where the family watched over Bessie as she healed. Bessie has since been adopted by a family of her own, but Julius and Sidney are still waiting for their forever home. "Every now and then, it happens," Wild said. "A kitten or two will be overlooked and somehow end up growing up in cages. That is what is happening to our Julius and Sidney. Their story deserves to be told, and maybe, just maybe someone will be touched by their heroism and decide to finally give them the happy ending they so deserve." Julius loves to snuggle and get belly rubs and purrs so loudly, there is no mistaking how much he adores cuddles, according to Wild. Sidney is a bit shy, but he still manages to get himself into silly situations like stealing a meatball straight from one's plate. They both get along with other cats. "They are sweet, loving and adorable," Wild said. "They are still just playful kittens. They love when people come visit them at Petco Huntington. Lately, though we are beginning to see a bit of a sadness in their eyes, whenever it is time to go back into the habitats. Or when another kitten gets adopted in front of them. "These two little boys are nothing short of heroes," Wild said. "We are certain that Bessie would never have made it with out them. We are hoping for a family for these boys before they get any older, so they can as kittens, know what it feels like to be safe and have love in a home of their own. It would certainly be a wonderful miracle to see them in a loving home for the holidays. They are just waiting and wondering where their happily ever after is." Julius and Sidney are neutered, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, and micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative. If you are interested in meeting Julius and Sidney, you can head to the Northport Cat Rescue Association website and fill out an application to let them know you would like to meet them or any of the other kittens and cats.
