MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester police Tuesday issued a preliminary statement on the investigation into an incident involving protesters and cars on a section of Main Street over the weekend. According to the report, At 4:46 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the area of Main Street and East Center Street for a report of protesters in the roadway blocking traffic. Officers responded and no one was observed in the roadway on their arrival. While speaking to a group of protesters who were located nearby, claims were made that a vehicle had driven through a group that was in the roadway earlier, according to a report. Police said in a report that no emergency calls were placed by anyone claiming that someone in the group was struck by a vehicle, but while officers were investigating the initial report of protesters in the roadway a 60-year-old woman came forward to report minor injuries sustained when a vehicle drove through a group of protesters in the road. According to a report, she declined medical attention at that time, and provided officers with a description of the vehicle. The protest was organized by Black Lives Matter 860. It was later discovered that a video of the incident was posted to social media, police said. The investigation into the encounter remains active, police said, and the operator has been identified. Manchester police added a statement: "It has come to our attention that misinformation is being disseminated online and through media sources regarding this incident. The facts are the only victim who has come forward reported minor injuries as a result of the vehicle driving through the group of pedestrians. Additionally, based on current information there is no indication that the actions of the operator were politically motivated. This incident remains an active and open investigation." Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is being asked to call Manchester police at 860-645-5500.
