FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A joint "fugitive operation" between the Fredericksburg Police Department and the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office led to the arrests of 21 people earlier this month, according to a joint news release from the agencies. Authorities claimed that the arrested people all had outstanding felony warrants. The operation was led by the U.S. Marshals Service. Authorities said the operation is part of the Marshals Service's efforts "to support areas within the Capital Area Region by removing wanted, often dangerous, fugitives from the community, thus providing a safer environment for everyone." Authorities in Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg said the operation took place on Nov. 9 and Nov. 10. In total, 21 people were arrested, 60 felony warrants were served, and 24 misdemeanor warrants were served. During the operation, law enforcement officials also seized drugs and cash, according to the news release. Police officials said they seized 3.5 pounds of methamphetamine, 90 pills of suspected fentanyl, and more than $4,000 in cash. Virginia State Police, the FBI, and the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force also aided in the operation, officials said.
