Here are the top stories today in Salt Lake City: A builder looking to build missing middle for-sale housing on a now-vacant lot in Liberty Wells has been stalled by the high cost of materials caused in part by the pandemic. Peter Corroon, the developer behind the seven-unit townhome project in the city's Liberty Wells neighborhood, tells us his firm hasn't yet moved ahead with his project after years of work due to "crazy high" construction costs. The issue represents a rare headwind that's been able to slow down an otherwise booming commercial real estate market in the region. (buildingsaltlake.com) Utah transit researchers are getting a major funding boost as they seek ways to connect the University of Utah's Research Park with a growing innovation district in Salt Lake City. The U.S. Department of Transportation on Friday announced recipients of its annual Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity grants, including $950,000 to the Utah Transit Authority, for its "TechLink Corridor Study." UTA, also on Friday, announced it has hired Jay Fox as its new executive director, replacing Carolyn Gonot, who left earlier this year to take the general manager and CEO position at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority in San Jose, California.(KSL.com)Every day this week, TSA officials plan to screen roughly 30,000 people and their luggage at Salt Lake City International Airport.
