AUSTIN, TX — With the whole family in town this Thanksgiving weekend, there will be several Austin-area events that will help everyone get into the holiday spirit. From holiday shows to Christmas light displays, there will be plenty of things to do with the kids, the extended family, that special someone and with friends. "A Christmas Carol" at Zach Theatre The beloved Christmas play will return to the theatre Wednesday, Nov. 24 and will continue through Sunday, Jan. 2 at The Topfer at ZACH on 202 South Lamar Street in Austin. Tickets start at $25. Student Rush Tickets are $18 one hour before show time (with valid ID). A limited amount of Pay–What–You–Will tickets are available the day of for Mainstage preview performances only. Tickets are available online at zachtheatre.org, by phone at 512-476-0541 Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. –5 p.m. Groups of 8 or more may request reservations by calling 512-476-0594 x3 or emailing [email protected]. Pinkmas at Museum of Ice Cream The Museum of Ice Cream will present "Pinkmas" starting Nov. 18 and will continue through Jan. 9 at its Domain location. The magical immersive experience will feature festive drink specials at the cafe and a variety of celebratory activities. Tickets for the "Pinkmas" celebrations start at $44 and include holiday themed ice cream treats for guests to enjoy as they go through the experience. Add on the special "Pinkmas" bundle for $39 to stock up on limited edition retail items like a headband, piñata plushie, MOIC ticket pin, and a sprinkle bag. Limited tickets are available online. Give back: Any guests that bring a toy to be donated to Toys for Tots will receive a complimentary ice cream scoop at the cafe. Merry Grinchmas: Holiday Kick-Off Event Kick off the holiday season, Grinch style. Join Domain Northside for an afternoon of fun-filled Grinch activities at 3 p.m. Nov. 27. Some events to check out include photo ops with The Grinch himself, Vannagram and selfie stations, Holiday tunes, and Caricature artists. And finally, at 6 p.m. experience the Official Tree Lighting, with the live-action "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" showing immediately after. Light Up The Plaza at Hill Country Galleria Walk underneath glittering lights and other festive decorations and visit the booths of local artisan vendors at the transformed Hill Country Galleria. The Light Up The Plaza event will kickoff from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 27 and will include holiday performances, face painting and the Holiday Market. The event will be free. Austin Trail of Lights This iconic holiday staple returns for its 57th year and second year as a drive-thru event to light up Zilker Park with over two million lights. Stay warm in your car and cruise through light displays of every shape and size. Open nightly from Nov. 27 through Dec. 31 (except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day), with a few fun theme nights. Peppermint Parkway This drive-thru holiday event was launched last year as a way to celebrate safely during the coronavirus pandemic. Music and millions of holiday lights are featured on the mile-long route. The event will run from Nov. 26 to Dec. 26. Tickets start at $35. For more information, visit Peppermint Parkway's website. The North Pole Flyer at Austin Steamtrain Association The North Pole Flyer is back in the Austin area! This ride is 2 hours and departs from ASA's historic 1912 Bertram Depot in Bertram, TX. During the ride, passengers will get cookies and unlimited hot chocolate, visits with Santa will be available, Mrs. Claus will be there to greet passengers and make sure your Christmas list is done, stories told by a story teller elf and coloring sheets and crayons will be provided for the kids. There will be two flyer rides at noon and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27. To purchase tickets, click here. Meet Santa Claus at the Arboretum Kids and pups will have a chance to get a free photo with Santa Claus at the Arboretum, 10000 Research Boulevard, throughout November and December. Kids will have a chance to get a free photo with Santa from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 27 in front of the 22-foot Christmas tree with Mrs. Claus. Pet photos with Santa will be available from noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 27 in front of the Christmas tree next to Amy's Ice Creams. The free photo session will also be collecting pet food and supplies for the Meals on Wheels PALS program which helps seniors living with their pets. To learn more about pet photos, visit here. Selfies with Santa at Hill Country Galleria Selfies With Santa is a magical experience that allows families to visit Santa inside his Workshop and take their own photos for free. Photos with Santa will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 26 and noon to 8 p.m. on Nov. 28 at Santa's Workshop, located indoors next to Buenos Aires Café. NOTE: There will be no professional photographer on-site. Families are welcomed to bring their camera phones or try out the mall's HALO selfie camera to text photos to your phone. Lone Star Holidays Farmers Market at Hill Country Galleria The farmers market favorite is getting into the spirit of the season, hosting holiday-themed vendors in addition to produce and goods purveyors that regulars have come to know and love. The market will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 28 through Dec. 19. The beloved farmers market will also offer holiday programming under the Central Plaza pavilion during this time. Lone Star Farmers Market will return to regular hours (10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Sundays) and operations on January 2. The market will not be open on December 26. Holiday movies at the Globe Drive-In Kick off the holidays with your favorite Christmas movie at the Globe Drive-In in Pflugerville and Manor this season. There will several holiday films to look out for including "Elf," "Die Hard," "Home Alone," "A Christmas Story," "The Santa Clause," and "The Office: Christmas." See the latest showtimes online here.
