Walking Tour of the Historic Trinity Cemetery,
followed by a Civil War Funeral Reenactment
Join us in wandering through one of Galveston's oldest cemeteries and learn about the history behind the Broadway Cemeteries Complex, as well as hear stories about colorful characters from Galveston's past. You'll find that when it comes to Galveston cemeteries, truth really can be stranger than fiction.
As a special treat on this day, after our tour we will be able to witness an impressive reenactment of the Civil War funeral of Edward Lea, who is buried at Trinity, and whose death is one of the tragic tales that came out of the conflict. The event will feature costumed participants and descendants of both Union and Confederate soldiers.
*The reeanactment begins at 11 a.m. and is free. Check the Facebook page of Lt. Cmdr. Edward Lea Camp, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War for updates. Cemetery tour will take place even if reenactment changes.
Your tour host is Kathleen Maca, the author of "Galveston's Broadway Cemeteries." A local historian and writer, she has spent over 45 years researching historic cemeteries.
