JOLIET, IL — After three decades of operation along Route 6, Joliet's Hollywood Casino, originally opened as Empress Casino, is now contemplating a new location in Joliet, most likely at the crossroads of Interstates 80 and 55 at the Rock Run Crossings development. Since the 1990s, Hollywood Casino enjoyed being in a secluded location off Route 6, but that is no longer the case anymore. In recent years, hundreds of acres of woods along Route 6 have been torn down and turned into industrial development. As thousands of motorists can now see, one of Joliet's biggest industrial projects at the moment is taking place right across the street from the Hollywood Casino entrance sign. In November, Joliet Patch reported that ARCO/Murray is constructing the 116,000-square-foot truck terminal building at 2901 Channahon Road, otherwise known as U.S. Route 6. City of Joliet building permits estimate the Route 6 construction cost at $5,438,588. On Monday, Joliet Patch visited the site to capture several photos showing the progress.
