LONG BEACH, CA — A murder suspect and two others led police on a highspeed chase that involved wrong-way driving on Los Angeles County freeways Tuesday. The trio was ultimately arrested at the Long Beach Towne Center. The chase began at about 2 p.m. in Lakewood on the northbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway near the Artesia (91) Freeway when sheriff's deputies tried to stop the suspects in a lifted pickup truck. The pickup driver turned onto the eastbound Century (105) Freeway and briefly drove against oncoming traffic. The driver then exited onto surface streets but quickly got back on the southbound 605 Freeway. The motorist again exited the freeway and came to a stop in the area of Carson Street and Long Beach Towne Center about 2:30 p.m. The three suspects exited the vehicle, surrendered to sheriff's deputies and were taken into custody without further incident. Reports from the scene indicated that one of the people in the vehicle was a murder suspect, although no other details were immediately available. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department described the suspect as "dangerous" and said a specialized police unit was involved in the chase, KTLA reported. City News Service contributed to this report.
