WOODRIDGE, IL — A jury found a former Chicago man guilty Monday of the 2015 stabbing murder of his girlfriend, Cecily Dickey, of Woodridge. Launden Luckett, 33, was convicted of first degree murder following two hours of deliberation and a trial that lasted five days. On Oct. 19, 2015, Woodridge police found Dickey dead in her apartment after she had been "repeatedly stabbed and choked," prosecutors say. During an investigation, police discovered Dickey and Luckett had gotten into an argument that turned physical. Prosecutors say Luckett stabbed Dickey in the stomach after she tried to run away from him. He was further accused of knocking Dickey to the ground and continuing to stab and choke her after she tried to flee again. Luckett then stole Dickey's car and debit card and fled the scene. He was taken into custody Dec. 16, 2015, and has been at the DuPage County Jail since his arrest. "This afternoon, a jury found Launden Luckett responsible for the brutal murder of Cecily Dickey," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release. Berlin added, "While their verdict cannot bring Cecily back to those who loved her, perhaps their finding will provide some measure of justice knowing the man responsible for her murder will face severe consequences for his actions." Luckett is set to appear in court again Nov. 30. More on Patch: No Bail for Alleged Girlfriend Murderer Woodridge Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing
