EAGAN, MN — Eagan Lunds and Byerlys workers will now have ability to determine when and how often they'd like to receive their paycheck. Employees can even receive a same-day paycheck. The Twin Cities supermarket chain announced last week that to attract workers in a tight labor market, it is becoming one of the first 100 companies in the US to use an on-demand pay app called Dayforce Wallet from Bloomington-based Ceridian's, according to a report in the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Workers can download the app on their phones, and can be paid immediately through a virtual debit card for working even a few hours – somewhat similar to the way that rideshare programs like Uber and Lyft pay their drivers. Lunds & Byerlys workers can also choose how much of their earnings they want to receive at that moment, according to a Twincities.com report. Unlike some immediate pay apps, Lunds & Byerlys employees will not pay any fees for immediate transfers. Proponents of immediate pay say that it helps workers get money in their pockets immediately, which is often especially necessary when they are struggling financially. "We are excited to be among the first 100 companies in the United States to utilize Ceridian's on-demand pay feature so our team can get paid when it's most beneficial to them," said Casey Enevoldsen, vice president of employee experience at Lunds & Byerlys. "This will help us attract and retain employees, absolutely." The chain employs 4,000 employees over 28 stores in the Twin Cities area.
