Norton Environmental Inc. is seeking a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) Sorter to be part of the team. Apply in person at 1800 E Butler Ave, Flagstaff AZ, 86001. WORK SCHEDULE: The normal work week will vary, Monday through Saturday. This position may be required to be available to work additional hours as needed to respond to workload needs. This position is eligible for overtime pay. Under general supervision, performs the full array of duties assigned including processing and separating various materials, by hand, on a moving conveyor; maintains a clean and hazard-free work area; demonstrates a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; assists, occasionally, in training newer assigned staff; performs related duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Sorter is responsible for processing and separating various materials, by hand, on a moving conveyor. Maintaining a clean and hazard-free work area. Report any equipment malfunctions. Follow appropriate standard operating procedures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Sorts and segregates recoverable materials (e.g., cardboard, plastic, paper, etc.) from incoming waste by hand on a moving conveyor. Deposit recoverable materials safely and efficiently into appropriate containers; place separated material into appropriate piles or containers. Assist other sorters on an as-needed basis with heavy or bulky items. Follow all safety policies and procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and stopping the conveyor belt in emergency situations. Inspect incoming loads for unacceptable waste; remove unacceptable items as required and arrange for handling through appropriate processes or by notifying appropriate staff. Maintenance of a clean workstation and area. Performs minor maintenance on equipment as necessary. Empties and cleans waste or material receptacles. Maintains assigned equipment and maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner. Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties.
