Calling all dog lovers! Ruby & Jack’s Doggy Shack is currently seeking motivated, compassionate and attentive dog handlers. We are currently looking for handlers who are willing to work 3, 12 hour shifts a week with weekend availability. You will have 4 days off in a week. You must also be fully vaccinated against COVID. If you are unable to work 12 hour shifts (about 7am-7pm) or are not vaccinated, please do not apply. At Ruby & Jack’s, dog handlers spend their days in our playrooms helping our pups play cooperatively and safely, gently curbing aggressive behavior and monitoring dogs for signs of stress. Handlers are expected to clean up after dogs and alert supervisory staff when animals require medical attention. Candidates should understand that working around animals can be physically demanding and dirty, with possible exposure to dog bites and cat scratches. Candidates should also be willing and able to lift heavy dogs, stand for long periods, take dogs on walks for bathroom relief or transport in a variety of weather conditions, and frequently use stairs. Our most important requirement for the position is simple: MUST LOVE DOGS! Our handlers and walkers are the foundation of our business and we pride ourselves on giving top-quality care, so we need people that are hardworking, reliable and trustworthy. Requirements: 18 or older Should love/want to work with dogs AND cats Able to safely supervise 20+ dogs in our playroom Able to identify and safely separate dogs playing too aggressively Able to stand for long periods, walk distances, lift heavy objects/animals, and use stairs frequently Unintimidated by and willing to clean poop, pee, vomit (occasionally) and blood (rarely) Flexible schedule (willing to work a variety of shifts and times) Punctual and reliable Attentive and detail-oriented Preferred Skills/Experience Previous animal handling experience (professional, at home or volunteer) Basic understanding of common medical issues in dogs and cats Basic understanding of dog behavior (body language, etc)
