Description

Support your local shelter and homeless kitties by making a Kitty Socialization bag! You will save the lives and help kitties find homes! This class requires some basic sewing skills, and is a GREAT companion to our Beginning Sewing Series! Tired of the typical "make an apron" class that really doesn't teach you how to sew? Don't need another tote bag, but you'd like to sew something fun and make a difference? We think that you can change the world one project at a time, so we've teamed up with the Aurora Animal Shelter to make a difference in the lives of kitties who need homes! In this class, you'll make a Kitty Socialization tote, which helps kitties get acclimated and ready for adoption much faster than with a few hang out sessions a day. Kitties can ride around with their foster parents and learn about the world and how awesome it is from the comfort of their own tote! The totes are washable and durable so they can be used many times to help kitties find their forever homes. Once you've completed the tote in class, you'll write a note to the kitties which will be placed in the tote, and the totes will be donated to the foster parents for kitty care. We hope to have the foster parents send pictures of happy kitties enjoying their tote to us via Facebook so you can see the impact you've made in the lives of our furry friends. PLUS! At the end of class, you'll get the pattern so you can go home and make totes for your favorite shelter! They need them! Not only will you be helping to save lives, you'll also learn how to sew with knits, practice inserting a zipper, add straps to a bag, and work with varied stretch materials! All valuable skills for a new sewer! This class does require you have some experience using a sewing machine and sewing seams for best results for the kitties. Bring your machine or use one of ours! Prerequisites We recommend you have some sewing practice before taking this class, like our Beginning Sewing Series. If you've sewn in the past and know your way around but want to get reacquainted with making things, this is the perfect class for you! Beginners welcome!! You DO NOT need to know how to insert a zipper for this class, we will help you with that...but you do need to know how to use a machine and a bit about pinning and seams. What's Provided All materials provided! Bring your machine or use one of ours! Just send an email using this form, click on contact the organizer in the upper right of this page!   Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No, you can also flash your receipt on your smart-thingy when you arrive.   What is the refund policy? Classes are non-refundable. If you need to miss a class due to a scheduling conflict, please contact the organizer in advance to reschedule. We will do our best to accomodate last minute emergencies, but please be respectful of the instructor's and fellow students and only reschedule when absolutely necessary. No-shows WITHOUT PRIOR CONTACT BEFORE CLASS for rescheduling will NOT BE RESCHEDULED and your ticket will not be repurposed.  Please arrive 5 min early for class, arrivals later than 10 min from the schedule start time will be considered a no-show In order to be respectful and have a full class session for all, PLEASE arrive 5 minutes early for class. This allows time for setup and settling in so we can start promptly. The building is secured, so your late arrival means disrupting class for others to admit your entry. If you are later than 10 minutes to class, you will be considered a no-show, we will not pause class to unlock the building, and you will need to reschedule your class at your own expense. We have recently had many, many students showing up late to class, and it not only disrupts the class in session, but throws off the entire schedule the rest of the day. Please be respectful and be on time. The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay? Yes, if you can't make a class or want to buy a class for a friend, that's ok. If you can let us know in advance, that'd be great, if not, make sure you or your friend can reference who bought the ticket so we know it wasn't stolen or hacked.   We believe that Happiness is Simple Sewing, so we designed our classes and class structure to help you avoid common pitfalls of sewing projects.   Our goal is to get you on your way to sewing without hassles, hiccups, or fear of patterns and complex concepts, giving you confidence in your sewing abilities.   We know you can do it! Let us show you how! Learn MORE for less with intimate 3 student classes!   Why spend your extra time and hard earned money to be herded through a big class like a sheep?   Here's what our past students have to say about our classes...   Really enjoyed the class! The small class size ensured lots of individual attention. The instructor was patient and clearly had put a lot of time into class prep, which kept the class running smoothly. I would definitely take another class from HISS. -Tracy   Very fun! I have barely used a sewing machine before but Tish made it really easy to learn. -Katie   She made it easy for a first timer. Thoroughly enjoyed the class and plan on taking more with her. -Terry   I found sewing to be very intimidating and this was an extremely accessible class. The space was great and my instructor Tish was extremely patient and encouraging. I tend to get frustrated when learning something new and she made me feel comfortable to ask questions instead of feeling embarrassed to ask something simple. Felt totally accomplished at the finish and looking forward to taking more classes! -Paige   Tish was great! The class was focused, well presented and we walked away with lots of knowledge of sewing. I'm definitely interested in taking more sewing classes and actually dusting off my sewing machine at home. -Jessica
