Two trailblazing photographers will also be honored – anthropologist Dr. Doris A. Derby, co-founder of the Free Southern Theatre and Georgia State University’s Office of African American Students Services and Programs, will receive the Change Maker Award, while the Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Jim Alexander, who has redefined the field of documentary photography for the last 50 years. This year’s Economic Justice Award goes to Charmaine Minniefield, who helps artists, especially fellow Black women artists, become economically viable. And Radio Free Georgia – WRFG 89.3 FM – a grassroots station also founded by Dooley, will receive the Bridge Builder Award for amplifying the voices that are left out of mainstream media since 1973. Themed “Party for a Purpose,” the event is also a Friend-Raiser for membership. The party will feature the sounds of DJ Baraka, Reggae with Ras Kofi Da Farmah, the “Common Denominator” exhibit, and visits with the studio artists as folks can tour the building. The ArtsXchange empowers artists, social justice activists, and creative entrepreneurs to engage communities with innovative artistic learning experiences and cultural exchange. In accordance with guidance from local officials and the CDC, masks are required in all common areas of the building.
