The Pedaling Revolution: BIPOC & FTWN-B are changing the cycling world. Join us as we hear from leaders who are making real change. We'll be hosting speakers who are changing the world! Join us and get inspired. Special thanks to the Lancaster County Community Foundation for their partnership. Please note: there may be some topics that are not appropriate for younger children. We consider this event to be 14+. August 23rd: Laura Pauls-Thomas (she/her/hers) Laura Pauls-Thomas believes that bicycles are a tool for healing ourselves, our communities, and our planet. Born and raised in Lancaster, PA, Laura is an outdoorist, storyteller, and advocate. Laura is a leading member of the Global Shapers Lancaster Hub and works with Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) East Coast as Communications and Donor Relations Associate. When she’s not riding her bicycle, Laura can be found sewing with upcycled materials or spending time with her spouse, Andrew, and dog, Pinto. June 28th: Zahra Alabanza (She/Her/They) zahra is. She conjures enthusiasm for life by practicing pleasure and play, living simply and seeking joy. Being a parent, organizer, creator and adventurer are a few roles that allow her to explore the depths of her pleasure and joy. A visionary, project starting, wandering, community weaving, overlover and outdoor junkie, she utilizes experience and space curation, outdoor adventure, land base work , wellness rituals and being a creator as the root of her community organizing efforts to enhance the quality of life among Black folk. Her work centers Black women, children and queer folks and meets at the intersection of justice, healing, quality of life and Black liberation. She is the Principal of Blue in Green Consulting Group, which specializes in cultivating experiences, spaces, and feels. She co-founded Red, Bike and Green-ATL and Black Freedom Outfitters, both entities centering BlackJoy in the outdoors. She also is on the leadership team for Radical Adventure Riders and a co-founder of the Untokening. zahra holds a Bachelor and Master degree of Social Work from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. She is a certified yoga instructor, doula and urban grower. She is really into surfing, sailing, anything involving a hammock, reading and all things leisure and luxurious. She has cultivated tribe and home in Atlanta with her two children, but belongs to no place as she is a wander with almost 40 countries visited on 6 continents. She wants to be a writer, sailor, homesteader, sanctuary creator and so much more, let’s see where this lifetime will take her. May 24th: Christina Torres (She/Her/Ella) - is the zinester behind Cyclista Zine. She is a descendant of the Kawaiisu and Paiute of Tejon Indian Reservation and an advocate for respectful recreation through connecting with the land through cycling, writing, social media, and zines. Cyclista Zine is the intersectional, feminist response to the cycling industry. A collaborative zine project made up of documentation of cycling stories centered in intersectional feminist and DIY culture. It acts as a printed guide from activists, writers, and artists of tutorials, stories, and advice for feminists wanting to dismantle the patriarchy in cycling.
