NEW YORK CITY — Mayor Bill de Blasio didn't miss a chance to kick his longtime rival Andrew Cuomo while the former governor is down.
De Blasio admitted Monday he hadn't yet read a damning new report detailing what state lawmakers called "overwhelming evidence" that Cuomo sexually harassed women, ordered state workers to help write his book during work hours and worked to cover up the number of nursing home residents who died of COVID-19.
But he said how the report will impact potential future prosecutions remains a "live issue."
"I have not seen the final report, but what I've heard is it confirms what we all feared: that there was a cover up in terms of the nursing homes," he said. "A horrible, tragic situation made worse by a cover up, in addition to other abuses of power."
The report details a probe launched by the State Assembly into a potential impeachment against Cuomo — a process halted by the former governor's resignation.
Cuomo has denied the accusations against him.
But the report notes Cuomo didn't fully cooperate with the investigation and often tried to sully the reputations of some of his accusers.
De Blasio, who sparred for years against Cuomo, said the report should help ensure the nursing home deaths don't occur again.
