MASSAPEQUA, NY — A Suffolk County man was arrested on Sunday and charged with robbing two jewelry stores in Massapequa. According to police, a man entered Forever Diamonds, located at 5508 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa, at 2:45 p.m. on Nov. 21. He asked to see a tray of jewelry from behind the counter, police said, and then grabbed the tray and ran out of the store. Police say their investigation led them to Kobeen Castillo Orellana, 20, of Bay Shore. Police found him at his home. As they were putting him into handcuffs, police say Orellana became combative and kicked one of the officers. After a brief struggle, police say they were able to place him into custody. The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police say the investigation found that Orellana had also robbed Kay Jewelers, located at 850 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa, on Sept. 29. Orellana is charged with second-degree grand larceny, third-degree grand larceny, two counts of second-degree assault and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 22 in First District Court in Hempstead.
